Why do we go to such lengths to save the lives of stray animals, knowing the odds might be against us?
It’s because we value and care the lives of the street animals who are struggling everyday to survive each day against all the odds.
I wanted to take a moment to reflect on a recent event that has deeply impacted us – the passing of Khairee, the dog we spayed three years ago.
You may recall her as the friendly canine who lived in front of the Kirana store, where people would often stop by to offer her biscuits.
She was a beloved member of our community, and her presence brought joy to many.
But one day, she began to feel unwell, coughing and vomiting. I rushed her to the nearest vet center immediately, but the vet said something that broke my heart.
Unfortunately, Khairee fell victim to distemper.
Distemper is a contagious viral disease that affects animals like dogs and some wild animals, causing symptoms like fever, coughing, vomiting, diarrhea, and neurological problems.
We took her to the best clinic in Chahabil and did everything we could to save Khairee. Day after day, she received injections, medication, and saline solutions.
Despite all our and the vet doctor’s efforts, she passed away on the 7th day.
It was heart-wrenching to witness her passing, as she had been very close to us. But this wasn’t the first time.
Many dogs who were very dear to us have passed away, despite trying everything we could to save them. Some of them have survived, but others have left this world while in our care, leaving a void in our hearts.
But why do we continue to fight for these animals?
Khairee’s story reminds us of the tough choices we have to make when we try to help animals in trouble.
There’s always a delicate balance between hope and reality, with challenges sometimes overwhelming us.
Yet, even when the odds are against us, we can’t just watch them suffer without trying to help.
How do we find comfort in these heartbreaking situations?
Certainly, there’s a sense of comfort in knowing that we did everything we could to ease their suffering and provide comfort in their last moments.
Although the loss of our beloved furry friends is undoubtedly painful, there’s also a profound sadness in having to share such heartbreaking news with the kind-hearted souls who donated, hoping for a different outcome.
So, I ask you this question: Should we let them die, or at least try to save them?
It’s a tough choice that makes us feel deeply, but it highlights the strong compassion and commitment that guide our mission.
As we keep going with our work, let’s believe that every effort, even if it seems small, counts and matters.
Let’s remember Khairee and all the animals we’ve lost by dedicating ourselves to their care and happiness. Your compassion and dedication make all the difference in the lives of these animals.
Let us keep striving to provide care and comfort to those who need it most.
