Earlier today, my neighbor urgently called me with news that Denju had been hit by a cyclist.
According to an eyewitness, Denju had initially chased the rider, a common behavior among street dogs who are often just trying to protect their territory or play.
After a while, Denju stopped chasing. But the cyclist, instead of riding away, he stopped, picked up a large stone, and struck Denju on the head with it.
The impact was so severe that Denju fell off a 6-foot-high wall, losing consciousness.
This is not the first time Denju has suffered. In the past, he has been hit by vehicles multiple times, resulting in a permanently fractured leg. Despite his injuries and the pain he has endured,
Denju remains a gentle soul, simply seeking kindness and understanding from the humans around him.
The incident has sparked a range of reactions within our community. While some members of the community rushed to Denju’s aid, showing compassion and concern.
Yet, there were others who, shockingly, defended the cyclist’s actions arguing that street dogs should not be fed or encouraged.
This division in our community reflects a deeper issue – a need for greater awareness and understanding of animal behavior, as it reflects a lack of empathy towards these innocent creatures.
We must recognize that dogs, much like human children, act out of instinct and curiosity. They do not mean harm; they are simply reacting to their environment.
I’ve encountered dogs chasing me while riding my scooter, but when I stop or slow down, they become harmless and calm down.
It’s a small act of patience that can prevent unnecessary conflict and harm. It’s up to us to understand their behavior and provide them with the care they need.
They rely on us for care and protection. When we fail them, we fail the essence of our humanity. As humans, we pride ourselves on our intelligence and superiority among all living beings.
However, true superiority lies in our ability to show compassion and protect those who are vulnerable. It is our responsibility to understand the reasons behind animals’ behavior and to treat them with kindness.
Denju’s situation reminds us of the daily pain and suffering many street animals face. They live in a world full of dangers, often with no one to care for them.
It is heartbreaking to see these loyal and loving animals misunderstood and mistreated. In nature, it is the instinct of a snake to bite when threatened.
But as humans, our instinct should be to show humanity. We should always strive to carry a compassionate heart, even towards those who may cause us fear or discomfort.
I urge you all to reflect on this incident and consider the ways we can make our community safer and more welcoming for all beings. Let us come together to raise awareness, educate others about the humane treatment of animals, and ensure that no other dog suffers like Denju.
Together, we can create a community where kindness prevails over cruelty, and where every living being is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
