From the streets of Nepal to a loving home in Canada, Jacqueline’s journey is nothing short of a miracle.
I wanted to share a heartwarming story about Jacqueline, a resilient dog who has touched our lives deeply. Jacqueline was born on the streets with her siblings.
Tragically, her mother died when she was just a month old. After her mother’s death, a male dog named Don Kancha took on the role of caregiver and protector, looking after Jacqueline like a mother.
Thanks to Don Kancha, we felt assured about Jacqueline’s safety.
Sadly, one day Don Kancha passed away due to old age, leaving Jacqueline alone once again. Whenever we visited, Jacqueline’s joy was noticeable.
She used to wag her tail and jump here and there. When it was time for us to leave, her expression seemed to plead for us to stay or take her with us.
Sometimes, the most unexpected friendships become the strongest lifelines.
Tragically, Jacqueline’s life took another difficult turn when she contracted distemper.
Normally, the survival rate for distemper is around 20-30% for Nepali local dogs, thanks to their strong immune systems. We brought Jacqueline to our shelter and began her treatment, constantly worrying about her survival.
Remarkably, she recovered, but the disease left her with a permanent neurological condition, causing her to shake constantly.
Knowing that life on the streets would be challenging for Jacqueline with her health condition, we kept her at our shelter while we tirelessly sought a home for her.
By luck, on June 12, we happen to get connected with a group dedicated to helping differently-abled dogs find homes. Through their efforts, Jacqueline found a loving home in Canada.
On November 20, 2020 after all the necessary health checkups and passport processes, the day of her flight arrived. We were filled with mixed emotions—happiness for her new beginning but sadness at saying goodbye.
We had watched her grow since birth, and now it was time to let her go. Jacqueline’s journey from the streets to the skies is a testament to resilience and hope.
Jacqueline is now thriving in Canada, where her family loves her dearly and frequently sends us photos.
According to her new mom, Jacqueline’s unique appearance often prompts questions about her breed.
Her resilience has amazed even the veterinarians in Canada, as distemper is rare there, and seeing a survivor is even more remarkable. It fills my heart with joy to know how valued and loved Jacqueline is by her new family.
What was once a regular street dog in Nepal is now a special, unique, and strong dog in Canada. The idea of flying to Canada, and having a family, a bed, and toys seems like a fairy tale, but Jacqueline is living that dream.
Her family reports that her health has improved, and she shakes less than before due to regular treatments. They are so happy to have her in their lives, and we couldn’t be more thrilled for her.
Jacqueline’s story reminds us that every animal deserves a chance and a happy ending. She is a reminder of the incredible impact of love and care.
