Losing Someone Special or Beloved Pet

Life is full of surprise- some joyous and some heartbreaking. Everyday is a gift but it’s only when we lose someone we love, we realize how short life can be.

I want to address and talk about something many people go through but often feel misunderstood about: the loss of a pet.

Losing a pet can be just as heartbreaking as losing a family member. Pets are more than just animals; they are friends, companions, and beloved members of our families.

Sadly, not everyone understand this feeling. Some people might say things like, “It’s just a dog” or “You can get a new one”, which can even make the pain worse.

When someone loses a pet, they might feel an overwhelming sense of sadness and loneliness. As a friend or a family member, it’s crucial to be there for them during this difficult time.

Even if we don’t feel the same way, we can still listen and offer our support. Sometimes, just being present and letting them cry on our shoulder can make a world of difference.

Consider suggesting that your friend or family member take some time off work or join a support group where they can talk to others who understand what they’re going through.

Sharing their feelings with those who have experienced similar losses can be incredibly healing.

I want to share a story about my mother who lost her beloved cat Baagru about a year ago.

Baagru had been her faithful companion for over 4 years, always by her side through thick and thin. When Baagru passed away, my mother was devastated. She felt as though a piece of heart was missing.

At first, she tried to keep her grief to herself, thinking that others wouldn’t understand. But as her family, we noticed her sadness and reached out.

We listened as she shared memories of Baagru, laughed at the funny stories, and cried with her during the tough moments. We also encouraged her to take some time off work to grieve properly.

Through our support and the understanding she found around us, my mother began to heal. She realized that it was okay to mourn on Baagru’s demise and that her feelings were validated.

The kindness and empathy she received helped her navigate through her grief. The loss of a pet is a tough and emotional time, but with your kindness and understanding, your close ones can find comfort and healing.

Remember, it’s not about fixing the pain but about being there through it.

Let’s spread awareness and show compassion to those going through the loss of a pet. Your support can make a significant difference in their journey towards healing.
