Remembering Tyau- A Rescued Cat

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you had to make a split-second decision that could change a life?

Let me take you back to the year 2016. On the morning of March 14, 2016, my day started like any other.

I was on my way to college on a micro, talking with my friend on the phone who was waiting for me at the college gate. But as I approached, something caught my eye that changed the course of my day.

In the middle of the road during that huge traffic jam, right under a microbus, I saw a small, malnourished cat. She looked so weak and helpless, barely able to move.

Her movements were painfully slow, and it was clear she was fighting for her life with every passing second. My heart broke when I saw the condition of the cat.

I immediately stopped the micro, stepped out and headed towards the cat to rescue her from the middle of the road. Without any hesitation, I picked her up and crossed the road with the cat, noticing how many people watched me; some even thanked me.

But I couldn’t help but wonder why none of them had stepped forward to help her.

Unsure of what to do next, some suggested to leave her on the side of the road, but I knew that her condition was too weak for that.

Leaving her there would have been leaving her to die. So, I made a quick decision to take another microbus and head back to home.

Once I reached home, I called a vet immediately. While checking the cat, the vet said she had only a 20% chance of survival. Despite the odds, we gave her some food, which she ate as if she hadn’t eaten in a long time.

She struggled to even poop so we had to use an earbud to help her, and we discovered a half-meter-long thread in her poop. It was heartbreaking to think that she had been so hungry she ate anything she could find, even a thread.

This incident opened my eyes to the harsh reality that while there is plenty of food in the world, many street animals still suffer from hunger. With regular care and lots of love, the little cat began to improve and soon transformed into a beautiful kitty with big, expressive eyes.

I was very happy from the bottom of my heart to see her heal and get back to normal.

We named her Tyau. She became a cherished member of our family, following us everywhere and “talking” to us as if she understood everything we said.

Tyau lived with us for five wonderful years, bringing immense joy and love into our lives. I enjoyed every moment spent with her.

However, this happiness was taken away when fate had other plans. On June 5, 2021, it was the day when Tyau was taken away from us forever.

On that afternoon, Tyau was crossing the road, and suddenly an over-speeding bike ran over her. I rushed, screaming her name in tears and devastated to see the incident.

Tragically, she died in an accident, taking her last breath in my arms.

It was heartbreaking to lose someone we had saved and loved so deeply, but it gives me comfort to know that she spent her remaining days surrounded by love and care.

I hope her soul is happy wherever she is. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read this story.

I hope it reminds you, as it does me, of the power of compassion and the difference we can make in the lives of those who need it most.
