Say NO to Sangini Sui

I’d like to share a crucial misconception we encountered during our recent spaying campaign.

Spaying means surgically removing the reproductive organs of a female animal, like a dog or a cat, to prevent them from having babies.

During our spaying campaign, we traveled to various areas of Lalitpur and met many kind-hearted animal lovers who care deeply about their pets and the local community dogs.

However, among all the kindness we discovered a troubling practice that some pet owners and locals were using human birth control injections known as “Sangini Sui” on pet dogs and community dogs thinking it was an effective way to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

They believed they were doing the right thing, trying to control the dog population and reduce the number of strays. However, what they didn’t understand was this method could be very risky and even deadly for those animals.

Human birth control injections can cause big changes in animal’s hormones. These changes can bring about serious problems like pyometra, which increases the risk of uterus infection and death.

This discovery turned our campaign into an urgent mission to spread awareness and educate the community.

We organized workshops, held discussions, and distributed informative materials to highlight the dangers of using human birth control on dogs. We explained the science behind why these injections are harmful and shared real-life stories of pets who had suffered because of this practice.

But we didn’t stop at just pointing out the problem. We also provide a safer and more effective solution: SPAYING.

We emphasized that spaying is the safest and most effective way to control the dog population.

Spaying not only prevents unwanted puppies but also offers many health benefits, such as reducing the risk of certain cancers and infections and often leading to calmer, happier lives.

Throughout our campaign, it was inspiring to see the community’s response. Many were eager to learn and adopt better practices for their pets and the community dogs.

We witnessed people coming together and assisting us in capturing the community dogs for spaying.  This experience was a powerful reminder of the impact of education and awareness.

It showed us that with the right information and support, people are willing to change for the better. I wanted to share this experience because i know we both share a deep love and concern for our furry friends.

Let’s continue to spread this important message and make a difference in the lives of our pets and community dogs.
