Your Immediate Action can Save a Needy Dog’s Life

Today, I want to draw your attention to an urgent issue that needs our immediate action—the welfare of street dogs in Kathmandu.
There are around 30,000 street dogs in Kathmandu, but unfortunately, we have only a few animal rescue organizations. And many of these organizations lack adequate shelter capacity to care for all the dogs they rescue.
If they receive more rescue requests, they honestly can’t handle them all.

This leaves many street dogs without timely care or support, suffering from serious health issues, injuries, and accidents.

Why can’t rescue organizations handle all the street dogs?

Despite their best efforts, animal rescue organizations are limited by resources and manpower, making it impossible for them to reach every dog in need.

Sometimes, even if they wish to help, they’re unable to do so.

In such situations, we must take the initiative to help these animals rather than waiting for someone else to act.

Here are some ways we can make a difference for street dogs in Kathmandu:

  1. Call a nearby mobile vet: For quick treatment of an injured or sick dog.
  2. Take it to a government hospital: These facilities are cost-effective and can provide the necessary care.
  3. Foster injured or sick dogs: If you have the space and resources, consider fostering a dog until it recovers.
  4. Create temporary shelters: If you don’t have space in your home, you can put out some cardboard or make a shade on the street for the dog.
  5. Provide food and water: Offering them food and water can keep them hydrated and nourished, aiding in their recovery.

By working together, we can make a positive impact on the lives of street dogs in Kathmandu. As a community, we  also share the responsibility of caring for these animals.

Let’s not rely solely on the government and animal rescue organizations but do our part to help these animals in dire need of our assistance.
